Walking isn’t just for the body; it does wonders for your peace of mind. It’s a whole new level of catharsis. It’s also a paracetamol for the soul. I just spent the last three days walking a total of thirty kilometers. At first you start thinking about how your day went, as the pulse of the city and a sea of people push against you, drowning you underneath the holiday spirit.
Soon however, you start thinking too much. The heat, the humidity, and the weight of your thoughts begin to make you more paranoid: irritated and agitated easily by the scenes of moving pictures inside your head. The voices inside your head -all you except in various tones, whispering from separate corners of your mind- start enumerating what could be happening should you have done this or that…and it’s driving you insane. All until that one moment: when the sheer length and effort of the long walk numbs your mind, and you find that the voices inside your head have stopped bickering, and the only thing that’s really worth a damn is that you’re still walking and you’re still going forward…
…And that you haven’t been run over by the insane jeepney drivers of Cebu.
